Shires Vets Ltd is a long-established veterinary practice (the website says it has provided comprehensive veterinary care for over 70 years) and is also listed as a Veterinary Nurse Training facility. In recent reviews, owners describe the practice as set up for both routine care and urgent problems: one owner says they were taken in right away after their dog ate raw bread dough, and another mentions their dog had surgery with neat stitches afterwards. Several reviews also mention nurse appointments and staff handling pets calmly and gently, helping nervous animals settle.
Ownership is not clearly stated in the clinic information or website summary; however, one reviewer alleges the practice is “owned by a private equity firm” and links that to price increases, while many other recent reviews focus on clinical care and staff support.

I live this place! I can always rely on them. I recently called right after my dog ate raw bread dough, and they took me in right away. The lovely doctor helped me quickly. I love the front desk ladies! They're all great! Xx thank you

I wondered why the price of a claw clip doubled overnight a few years back and did a bit of digging. Shires are now owned by a private equity firm, this means they will nickel & dime you for profit. We have since switched to a small independent vet and the prices are very nearly 50% lower. The only downside is that we have to chase our own insurance claims as this is how independents can keep costs low. I'm more than happy with that. Don't pay over the odds for your beloveds treatment, it's going the same way as US healthcare. Put a stop to it.

We as a family have been using shires for years, and what a fantastic practice it is! I wouldn't trust anyone else with my dogs. The girls on reception, the nurses and the vets are all extremely polite, very friendly and put you at ease as soon as you walk in, nothing is to much trouble. All the staff are very professional, and genuinely care and show compassion to you're pets when needed. Garent treated our late staffie roxie with numerous eye conditions and he is just the best !! And we will forever be grateful to him for being there at the end. 5 STAR SERVICE ALROUND.

Returned to Shires Vets today for a little visit with the Nurse for my little fella. He was treated very well and gently. All the staff here are lovely. Me and my fur babies have always received outstanding support and care from Vets and Staff at Shires . That's why I've been a customer for over 30 years. Thank you 🥰💖
